A total of 21,480 tractors were sold which compares to 21,712 sold in 2022. For the month, two-wheel drive smaller tractors (under 40 HP) were down 7% from last year, while 40-100 HP were down 8%. Sales of 2-wheel drive 100+ HP were up 8%, while 4-wheel drive tractors were up 114%. For the year, two-wheel drive smaller tractors (under 40 HP) are down 11% from last year, while 40-100 HP are down 8%. Sales of 2-wheel drive 100+ HP are up 8%, while 4-wheel drive tractors are up 43%. Combine sales in September were even with last year. Year to date sales of combines in 2023 total 5,694, an increase of 25% from the same period in 2022. EDITOR’S TAKE: Bigger farms equal bigger equipment. Today’s larger farming operations use higher horsepower tractors to pull the larger planting and tillage equipment. Similarly, the larger acreages of crops like corn, soybeans, wheat and cotton require larger combines, especially ones that are reliable. Thus, we see these demand factors reflected in the AEM reports over the past several months, and September is no different. Farmers are purchasing high powered, expensive machinery because it helps their operational efficiency, but it also helps offset their income tax liability. Similarly, the trucks on your lot, the ones you should display on AgTruckTrader.com, can also help the farmer/rancher be more efficient AND offset taxes. Throw AgPack® into the equation to offset operating costs through up to $32,000 in exclusive rebates and discounts and you have a perfect story to attract farmers/ranchers to your dealership!
