U.S. Corn Quality Earns Praise from South Korean Buyers

A Nebraska farmer says the quality of U.S. corn has helped keep American producers competitive in global markets.

Matt Sullivan recently hosted a team of 20 South Korean buyers, end users and business on his farm. “I talked to a couple of buyers, and that was one of my questions. How does U.S. corn look to the rest of the world? They, again, say it’s top notch.”

He says the U.S. has reduced broken corn and foreign material (BCFM) in exports, which makes purchases more valuable. “That used to be an issue 5 to 10 years ago. They’ve seen marked increases in quality coming into South Korea. That’s a feather in our cap that we can produce the best corn out there that’s available for export.”

Sullivan says the trade team also asked about equipment, cost of production and production potential.

Mr. Sullivan has firsthand experience from hosting a buying team on his farm. The recognition of U.S. quality is not restricted simply to corn.
