Large Ag Equipment Still Selling, What’s Not?

According to the latest report from the Association of Equipment Manufacturers (AEM), sales in June 2021, compared to the same month a year earlier, of large 2WD tractors (100+ HP), 4WD tractors and combines were all up dramatically! What wasn’t so hot in June, sales of under 100 HP tractors, especially under 40 HP tractors. The under 40 HP utility tractors are often sold to what is commonly called Large Property Owners (LPO’s).

Large 2WD tractors increased 24.8% in June. The 4WD category increased – drum roll please – 141.8%! Combine sales were up 4.1%.

Turning to the 2021 Year-to-Date (YTD) numbers – every category is up compared to YTD 2020. Total 2WD tractors were up 16.6% and 4WD tractors were up 32.2%. During the same period, total tractor sales increased 16.7%. Combines sales rose by 11% for YTD.

Despite a downturn in a couple of 2WD tractor categories for June, overall ag equipment sales remain strong – a very respectable showing in our opinion. Farmers are spending money on large ticket items based on the numbers in this month’s AEM report.
