Matt Herrick, Senior Vice President of Public Affairs and Communications, with the International Dairy Foods Association shares that new value and volume records were set last year. “It’s been off the charts.”  “Ag exports as a whole certainly are at record levels — some of that is a price story due to inflation,” he says. Herrick credits growth in Mexico, Canada, Central and South America, along with Asia for the increase. “Dairy exports have grown substantially every year and last year was no different — 9.5 billion in value and 2.8 million metric tons of dairy exports to markets all around the world.” National Milk Producers Federation President and CEO Jim Mulhern says the growth came despite supply chain challenges, a lack of new trade agreements, and other barriers.  Krysta Harden, President and CEO of the U.S. Dairy Export Council, says the performance is a testament to U.S. suppliers’ commitment to global markets and the value consumers in those markets have for U.S. dairy products. EDITOR’S TAKE: Excellent results from the dairy export ranks. Continuing growth in exports is a testament that our products are high quality and a good value that are in demand overseas. It is particularly encouraging to hear that our neighbors to the North are finally accepting more U.S. dairy products. We also love to hear that this is not simply a one-trick pony, this is the continuation of a multi-year trend. It appears that the dairy industry export picture is in line with many other commodities that realized record exports this past year. Right now, agriculture appears to be running on all cylinders. Although some are predicting a slight slow-down in 2023, we don’t expect it to be much. Demand for trucks, new and used by farmers and ranchers, is expected to be very strong through this year and for the foreseeable future.
