Global Demand for U.S. Dairy Pushes Records

U.S. dairy exports maintained their record streak for the third time in 2022. Matt Herrick, Senior Vice President of Public Affairs and Communications, with the International Dairy Foods Association shares that new value and volume records were set last year. “It’s been off the charts.”  “Ag exports as a whole certainly are at record levels — some of that is a price story due to inflation,” he says.

Herrick credits growth in Mexico, Canada, Central and South America, along with Asia for the increase. “Dairy exports have grown substantially every year and last year was no different — 9.5 billion in value and 2.8 million metric tons of dairy exports to markets all around the world.”

National Milk Producers Federation President and CEO Jim Mulhern says the growth came despite supply chain challenges, a lack of new trade agreements, and other barriers. 

Krysta Harden, President and CEO of the U.S. Dairy Export Council, says the performance is a testament to U.S. suppliers’ commitment to global markets and the value consumers in those markets have for U.S. dairy products.
