The USDA says 5.152 billion bushels of U.S. corn were consumed for ethanol production in 2021. That’s an increase of 8% from 2020, when production was constrained by the pandemic.
The Renewable Fuels Association says last year’s blend rate was a record 10.34% of every gallon of gasoline sold, with annual production of 15 billion gallons, the largest volume for any year since 2010, and domestic consumption seeing a 10% jump.
Corn for ethanol use during January was 474.46 million bushels, 1% less than December 2021, but 14% more than January 2021.

Wonderful news for corn markets! Ethanol typically accounts for approximately one-third of all corn produced in the U.S. With demand for ethanol rising, plus global demand for corn rising, this should be good news for corn growers. It could, however, make livestock producers take a second look at how they manage their feed cost.
