Senate Ag Chair Pushing for More Farmer Aid
The chairman of the U.S. Senate Ag Committee says Congress continues to discuss additional financial assistance for agriculture.
In a recent committee hearing, John Boozman told attendees… “In the immediate future, Congress must provide additional assistance to ensure producers have the working capital available to see them through the 2026 crop season.” The Arkansas Republican says economic conditions are not yet easing for America’s farmers.
“I would say it’s a generational event. While input prices for our producers have been stubbornly high for the past several years, this situation has recently become more acute as farm bankruptcies increase, fuel prices remain high, and interest rates have yet to come down.”
Boozman says the $12 billion Farmer Bridge Assistance Program was a good first step, but he’s advocating for an expansion of the program in any future supplemental funding legislation.
EDITOR’S TAKE:
Rumors of up to $15 Billion have circulated in Washington for additional farmer assistance. Between disaster relief aid and Bridge Assistance programs, several billion dollars have already been put back into the ag economy. That said, because food and agriculture are national security interests, it is not surprising that more aid is being considered. With support from both houses of congress and both sides of the political aisle, I’ll go out on a limb and say it is likely to happen!
This type of aid will provide the necessary operating support farmers/ranchers need to keep their head above water until markets correct and commodity prices return to profitable levels again. You will also likely experience an uptick in farmer/rancher demand for new or used trucks you have on your lot. Be sure to place that inventory on AgTruckTrader.com® but also be sure to mention the nearly $50,000 in exclusive rebates and discounts available through AgPack®!
