RFA: Ethanol Exports Up Sharply YTD

The U.S. exported 209.9 million gallons of ethanol during February.

The Renewable Fuels Association says that was down 1% on the month, but up 36% on the year, with more than half of that headed to Canada and the European Union. Canada takes primarily denatured ethanol for industrial and fuel purposes, and the E.U. imports mostly undenatured ethanol for industrial, fuel and beverage use.

Exports of distillers dried grains with solubles (DDGS) were 9% lower than the previous month at 919,855 tons, with Mexico maintaining its hold on the top slot. The U.S. is the world’s largest exporter of ethanol and DDGSs.

Year-to-date, U.S. ethanol exports are 25% ahead of last year’s record pace at 421.9 million gallons and DDGS exports are 16% faster than 2025 at 1.93 million tons.

EDITOR’S TAKE:

It is not surprising, given the current geopolitical situation, that ethanol exports are up dramatically year-over-year. Ethanol is a great way to stretch the gasoline dollar at the retail pump. With gasoline prices up sharply since the beginning of the war in Iran, ethanol is proving to once again be a partial solution. Good for farmers, good for consumers, great for the environment and a strategic part of our nation’s national security interests.

Any time you can advocate for year-round E-15 with your national elected officials, please, by all means, speak out in favor. Also, be sure to let farmers know that you support their efforts to increase demand for ethanol and the passage of national legislation that would allow the sale of E-15 all year!
