Mixed Reactions in Farm Country Over Potential New Aid Package
There are mixed feelings in farm country about another round of financial aid from the government.
“It’s almost like a necessary evil at this point.”
Southern Illinois farmer Granvil Travis says he prefers market-based solutions, but he can’t afford to opt out right now. “You’ve got to sign up for it. You have to stay profitable.”
Southeast Nebraska farmer Logan Bredemeier says timing delays can tighten cash flow even further. “It ends up earmarked way before it even shows up in the account. You still have costs to cover: rent - seed - chemical - fertilizer.”
North-central Kansas farmer Shale Porter says additional support could impact his nutrient management program. “It would sure be beneficial with the high price of fertilizer. It may change my mind from eliminating my second fertigation pass.”
Congressional lawmakers are considering more ad-hoc assistance, but a formal package has not been made public.
EDITOR’S TAKE:
Most farmers/ranchers prefer market-based solutions over government involvement. Unfortunately, the current situation for crop farmers often leaves them with no alternative but to accept help from the government. The rumor mill puts the amount being considered by Congress at $20 billion. Whether that is the final number or not is of little consequence. There will very likely be another round of assistance coming from Washington, D.C.
Along with payments already authorized by Congress, the new round will certainly help boost the farm economy. With that said, make sure you keep your inventory up to date on AgTruckTrader.com®. Farmers will still be shopping for their next truck purchase or lease. One of the first places many of them turn to these days is AgTT.
