Market Expert Predicts Calmer Fertilizer Prices in 2026

A market specialist anticipates a less volatile year for fertilizer prices in 2026. Veronica Nigh is with The Fertilizer Institute. “We can’t do much to anticipate what’s going to happen geopolitically with regards to Russia, the Middle East or China. So unfortunately, that international volatility (is) hard to predict.” But she says that the U.S. designating potash and phosphate as critical minerals late in 2025 helps to provide stability.

“Most finished fertilizer products are not going to be subject to IEEPA tariffs, I think is going to help that volatility pretty significantly.”

Nigh says for nitrogen, no additional domestic capacity is expected this year.

“So, any additional supply would be coming in on the import side. Nitrogen production has been good and steady in the U.S. over the last many years and no anticipation that would be any different in 2026.”

She says there should be more market certainty for fertilizer compared to the past year.
