According to Real Christmas Tree Board Executive Director Marsha Gray, a recent survey of their members found increases up to 15 percent are likely. “Their input costs have gone up significantly and a certain percentage of that is getting passed on in the wholesale price of those Christmas trees,” Gray shares. She says supplies and other logistical challenges are expected to be similar to 2021. “We are in a position of tight supply, we have been for several years, but not any major shortage,” she says. Growers also listed freight/shipping/logistics/supply chain slowdowns as their top concerns in the survey. Gray’s best advice to consumers is to shop early and never let a real tree dry out.  It takes about seven years to grow a real Christmas tree or about a year per foot. EDITOR’S TAKE: We are seeing the impacts of supply chain disruptions and rapidly rising costs of goods and services everywhere! Now, while unfortunate for consumers, the prices for a real Christmas tree are going up as well. Christmas tree growers are doing everything they can to control costs, but circumstances are forcing them to pass some of those increases along to consumers. After all, Christmas tree growers, like any other business, must make a profit to remain viable over the long haul.  Therefore, they are very good prospects who use fertilizer, fencing, mowers and more - all items offered by our fantastic AgPack® partners.  As part of the ag industry, let Christmas tree growers in your area know that by purchasing or leasing a new or qualified used vehicle from you, a CAD member, they also have access to up to $30,000+ in exclusive AgPack® rebates and discounts.
