Swine Industry Unites Behind National Plan to Improve Herd Health

The director of swine health for the National Pork Board (NPB) says there is a lot of disease pressure that pork producers are struggling with right now.

Speaking to Brownfield Ag News during the World Pork Expo in Des Moines recently, Dr. Marisa Rotolo said NPB has developed the National Swine Health Strategy, which is focused on advancing swine health for all producers.

“We have specific priorities and goals, but we’re really focused on reducing the impact of domestic diseases while keeping an eye on our foreign and emerging diseases. She calls it a coordinated approach unifying the industry to advance swine health and those goals and priorities.”

EDITOR’S TAKE:

The swine industry is known for taking proactive steps to eliminate diseases from their herds. This is another step to advance the cause of better herd health to assist producers in providing a clean, safe product for consumers. They have also joined in the fight against the New World Screwworm that is currently impacting cattle but could cross over into swine. We commend the NPB for their efforts to protect producers and consumers.

Speaking of keeping people safe, what about offering a free safety inspection with an oil and lube special. That way your parts and service departments can get in on the action with your CAD customers. And for those purchasing a new truck or SUV make sure you offer them CAD Protect, since the vehicle will be used on a farm or ranch! CAD Protect offers coverage when the OEM warranty does not.
