Grassley Backs Temporary Suspension of Phosphate Fertilizer Duties
U.S. Senator Chuck Grassley says President Trump made the right call to lift countervailing duties on phosphate fertilizer from Morocco.
“We finally got some results of talking about the tariffs on Moroccan phosphate coming into this country,” he said. “At the same time, Mosaic has 80% of the phosphate market. They don’t need protections.”
The Iowa Republican says it’s a move that could lead to some relief for growers.
“Family farmers are struggling with these high input costs,” he said. “There’s not replacement for phosphate as a fertilizer for corn and soybeans.”
Grassley says the duties have been costly. “It adds up to $7 billion more for fertilizer that the Biden administration put on farmers because of these phosphate duties.”
Trump’s executive action says Moroccan fertilizer duties are suspended for up to eight months or until the President ends the emergency, whichever comes first, to increase phosphate supplies ahead of the 2027 planting season.
EDITOR’S TAKE:
Senator Grassley and President Trump are in alignment by supporting lower tariffs on phosphate fertilizer. This action will cut costs and provide some much-needed relief for farmers/ranchers. Higher input costs have topped the list of concerns for farmers during the past couple of years.
Speaking of providing some much-needed relief, as a CAD member you have just the means to do that – it’s called AgPack®! What a magnificent program offering nearly $50,000 in exclusive rebates and discounts on products farmers/ranchers can use. The good news is that it is separate from any discounts and rebates provided by you or the OEM. It is over and above and is no cost to the farmer/rancher.
