Exports Continue to Boost U.S. Pork Demand

U.S. pork demand continues to be boosted by exports.

National Pork Board Senior Vice President of Market Growth David Newman says 2024 was another banner year for pork exports.

“And again, we continue to be the shining star globally on both volume and value of exports. So that’s roughly 30 percent of our production, so critically important to our business.”

He says Mexico remains a massive market for U.S. pork. “And this is beyond just hams, but also into items now like loins. So, we’ve got to keep our eye on the prize internationally to think about improving value and carcass maximization.”

Newman says as Mexico’s economy improves, there’s opportunity for a broader portfolio of pork products.

EDITOR’S TAKE:

Congratulations to the pork producers and the entire pork industry – job well done! Increasing exports is not easy, but it is vitally important to all involved in the industry. As Mr. Newman points out, exports account for 30 percent of all pork production. Perhaps 2025 will be another banner year and continue to boost incomes for pork producers in the U.S. Please keep those hog farmers on your preferred customer prospect list. All indications are they will be purchasing a truck or two in 2025.
