Case IH Dealer: CNHI & UAW 'Need to Settle the Strike'

In a recent report from the Wall Street Journal, Rod Bierle, manager at Iowa Case IH dealer Bancroft Implement, said the UAW-represented CNH workers' strike has negatively impacted equipment wait times.

“The strike has made it worse,” Bierle told the Wall Street Journal. “They need to settle the strike. We’re waiting for tractors.”

Bierle also said Bancroft Implement had increased used equipment purchases as new equipment becomes harder to get from CNH Industrial. “We’re using a Band-Aid to take care of these guys,” he said. “Fortunately, there’s a lot of used equipment in the U.S.”

UAW told the Wall Street Journal in the report that "the strike is affecting production at other plants as well, because they use components from the plants on strike."

Editor’s Take:

This is not the first time CNH and the UAW have participated in a protracted strike/shutdown. Unfortunately, in the end there are no winners. Farmers/ranchers can’t purchase the CNH machinery they desire. Typically they could switch brands, but other OEM’s don’t have huge supplies either. Workers lose wages. And the company loses revenue from having little or no sales. However, while farmers/ranchers are waiting to buy the equipment they want or need, sell them a truck or two – it’s entirely within the realm of possibility.
