Ag Secretary Says Updates to Dietary Guidelines Could be Released Earlier Than Expected

Secretary of Agriculture Brooke Rollins says work continues to revise the draft dietary guidelines. During a call recently about the Make America Healthy Again Commission report, she told reporters, “I think what you’re going to see is a whole new day.”
Rollins announced earlier this year that she and Department of Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., would do a line-by-line review of the proposed Dietary Guidelines for Americans (DGA) that were released by the Biden administration last year.
“Federal nutrition advice will be sound,” she says. “It will be simple and it will be clear those guidelines will prioritize whole, healthy foods such as whole milk, fruits, vegetables, and meats, and suggest limitations of foods high in sugar and salt.”
The DGA had a December 31 deadline, but Rollins says she expects updated guidance to be released sooner.
The Dietary Guidelines for Americans are typically released every five years, and in addition to providing healthy diet recommendations, the guidelines also help shape federal nutrition programs.
EDITOR’S TAKE:
During my time with USDA, we released updated dietary guidelines. I can clearly recall the pushback we received from a number of sources and the public discussion that ensued. If I were a betting person, I would put big money that the new USDA guidelines, published in conjunction with the Make America Healthy Again (MAHA) initiative, will generate plenty of feedback, pushback and, of course, diverse opinions. Regardless of the public outcry, this could be the most significant rewrite of the dietary guidelines since their inception in 1980. We will see what develops, but be ready for a very vigorous debate!
One thing that is not up for debate is the success we are experiencing with the farmer/rancher developed AGwagon! Out of the box it received overnight recognition for the rugged build with that amazingly striking exterior. Orders are coming in at a rapid pace and the AGwagon field team is signing up dealers to sell the hottest truck to hit the ag market – ever! Let us know if you are interested in being part of an ag truck revolution!
